"Holy" is a self-portrait borrowing imagery from byzantine religious art. As with most of my self-portraits, I do not represent myself in reality, but an imagined version on which I project meaning. I conceptualized this portrait as a deification of queer femininity. Using a visual language to describe a figure that would generally be distained by religious organizations, the "other" is made sacred.
